Arrangements Regarding Childcare and Nursing Care Support for Ritsumeikan University Faculty Members

As part of its efforts to improve the work environment to support the work-life balance of its faculty members, Ritsumeikan University has formulated the “Arrangements Regarding Childcare and Nursing Care Support for Ritsumeikan University Faculty Members” and is also in the process of creating a system to support faculty members facing life events such as childcare and nursing care.
If a faculty member involved in childcare/nursing care who meets the requirements requests it, the following measures to provide support will be taken.

Measures Taken Upon Request:

  1. (1)Number of Teaching Hours
    Measure to reduce one teaching hour (i.e., one course) per semester, etc.
    *However, the actual number of teaching hours (averaged over the full year) after the reduction shall not be less than the minimum number of hours that faculty members are required to be responsible for.
  2. (2)Class Timetable
    Measures to reduce the allotment of classes in the first period and in or after the fifth period.
  3. (3)School Duties
    Measures to reduce the number of university-wide executive positions and departmental executive positions the faculty member is responsible for.

Faculty Members Eligible to Request Support:

  1. a)Faculty members who are taking care of a child up to the age of two years old.
  2. b)Faculty members who provide nursing care for a family member (a condition requiring constant care for a period of two weeks or more due to injury, illness, or physical or mental disability).
    *Eligible Relationships
    (1) spouse (2) parent (3) child (4) spouse's parent (5) grandparent, sibling or grandchild
